1:30 PM Family Channel Jingle All The Way Arnold Schwarznegger out to land the season’s hottest toy. Bonus points for a Phil Hartman appearance. Buy It!
8 PM NBC Radio City Christmas Spectacular NBC televises the Christmas show from Radio City for the first time.
10 PM TBS The Santa Claus Tim Allen as the reluctant elf. You like osso buco, Charlie? Buy It!

7:00 PM Family Channel Rudoph’s Shiny New Year Rudolph has to help Father Time find the New Year’s baby by midnight. It’s Rankin & Bass, that gets it a mention here. Buy It!
8:00 PM ABC A Charlie Brown Christmas : I never thought it was such a bad little tree. It’s not bad at all, really. Maybe it just needs a little love. Buy It!
8:00 PM Family Channel The Year Without A Santa Claus Ah, Mr. Heatmiser! I’d recommend this one, but it’s on opposite A Charlie Brown Christmas thanks to the network programming weasels. Luckily, since it’s the Family Channel, it’ll be on about a thousand more times. Buy It!
Tuesday, December 4

8:00 PM ABC Santa Claus is Comin’ to Town Fred Astaire narrates the Rankin/Bass classic. Would be my pick for the night except for Rudolph (below) and the fact that this will air again later. Buy It!
8:00 PM CBS Rudolph, the Red-Nosed Reindeer Burl Ives as the snow man, Yukon Cornelius licking his pickaxe, Hermey the elf-dentist, and everyone’s favorite Bumble. Buy It!

8:00 PM ABC Santa Claus is Comin’ to Town Fred Astaire narrates the Rankin/Bass classic. Burgermeister Meisterburger! Buy It!
8:30 PM TOON How The Grinch Stole Christmas The 1966 animated classic. You’re a mean one, Mr. Grinch…Would be the easy pick for the night except for the fact that Santa Claus is Comin’ to Town runs over it, and this will show up a couple times through the Christmas season. Buy It!
10:00 PM Family Channel Rudoph’s Shiny New Year Rudolph has to help Father Time find the New Year’s baby by midnight. It’s Rankin & Bass, that gets it a mention here. Buy It!

9:00 PM TBS National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation There are five movies in the National Lampoon’s vacation series. Two of them are good. This is one of the two. Don’t we all have a Cousin Eddie? Buy It!
Friday, December 7
Time (Eastern) Network Show Comments Amazon
8:00 PM CBS Frosty the Snow Man Jimmy Durante narrates the 1969 special that we all love. It’s finally feeling like Christmas season. Happy Birthday! 9pm on CBS. (If they’d only bring back that spinning “SPECIAL” graphic.) Buy It!
8:00 PM Family Channel The Polar Express I confess I haven’t seen it, or read the book. I’m well-informed by various ad agencies that it’s a modern Christmas classic; unfortunately, it looks vaguely creepy to me. Buy It!
8:00 PM Family Channel The Polar Express Yep. Family has become the Polar Express Channel for the night. Buy It!
8:30 PM CBS Frosty Returns We had high hopes, John Goodman is occasionally brilliant, and the music is by Mark Mothersbaugh of Devo fame. Turns out… it’s not good. But since you’re already tuned in, watching the original Frosty, you might as well leave the TV on. Buy It!

Okay, no Christmas-related recommendations for prime time tonight. However, TCM is showing a tribute to Claude Raines, including Notorious and Casablanca. I’d go that route tonight.
