American Idol Season 7 – Top 20 Results

I didn’t get a chance to live-blog the results show last night, but here’s the outcome. These folks will no longer grace your television:
Guys Leaving:
- Jason Yeager, the boy-band-looking 28-year old who sang the Doobie Brothers Long Train Runnin’
this week.
- Robbie Carrico, the Axl Rose wannabe who gave us Foreigner’s Hot Blooded
.
For my part, I had Jason picked to go, so a correct call there. My other pick was Michael Johns, so I missed on that one. I didn’t like Robbie at all – if you look at my reviews of the first two competitive shows I basically had him pegged as a poseur – but I thought the rock thing would carry him a few more weeks. I won’t miss him.
Girls Leaving:
- Alexandrea Lushington, who offered up If You Leave Me Now, by Chicago.
- Alaina Whitaker, who was Hopelessly Devoted To You
… although, clearly, America wasn’t devoted to her.
I didn’t get the girls right at all… or actually, I did, and then America got it wrong. I had Amanda Overmeyer as the worst of the night, and I think it’s undeniable that she was… perhaps I underestimated the power of Vote for the Worst, but the fact remains that she’s mind-numbingly awful. My other choice was Ramelie, who I know I’m out of touch with the rest of the country on, but I stand by my pick. As for the two who were actually voted off, I liked ‘em both.
More fun to be had next week. It’s time for somebody to turn up the heat. We’ll see who it is. The obvious early girl/guy favorites are Carly and David Archuleta… who is talented, but is in danger of inexperience catching up with him. We’ll see how they hold up.
