AT&T Sends Out American Idol Spam

The New York Times reports that AT&T decided it would be a Good Thing to send out some uncounted number of millions of unsolicited text messages advertising American Idol to its mobile phone customers earlier this week. In a remark destined to go down in the annals of dumbassery, Mark Siegel, a spokesman for AT&T Wireless, said the message couldn’t be classified as spam because it was free.

Here’s hoping they don’t try to make amends by sending everyone a free Sanjaya ringtone.
