Movie ads from Super Bowl 43, February 1, 2009

Quick thoughts about the movies that ran ads during Super Bowl 43, based entirely on the content of the commercials that aired during the game:

Angels and Demons – Looks okay, if you like plodding, overblown drama.
Fast and the Furious – Why anyone would be interested in any of the movies in this series is beyond me.
GI Joe – Horrid.
Land of the Lost – Looks fun. Not for the ages, but fun.
Monsters v. Aliens – Completely derivative story. Should be competent and workmanlike, but that’s it.
Star Trek – Looks mixed… I see aspects I like, but I’m afraid they’re throwing in too much Big Action Movie.
Transformers – No, no, a thousand times, no.
Up – Has potential.
Year One – I love me some Jack Black, but this looks stupid.
Witch Mountain – This looks surprisingly good, for what it is.

So, can you judge a book by it’s cover? Once these come out it’ll be interesting to see what the final results are, but for now… it looks like a bleak year at the movies, based on these choices.
